Black history is often systematically dismembered, leaving our communities with a fractured sense of self. We invite you to heal these ancestral wounds by re-membering your own family’s narrative. Artist community-based scholar, and memory worker Endiya Griffin (@endiyaah) will be offering the following services:
Digitization - Digitize your photographic slides and prints [black & white or color].
Printouts - Provide prints of born-digital content, such as the photos stored on your phone, digital camera, or external hard-drive/USB.
The Black Family Archive program is a continuation of Black Image Center’s pop-up event with the same name in the Fall of 2021. We at BIC believe that Black family archives are the building blocks of our collective history, Black culture, and foundational elements of Black visual language. Archival family photos are often the first time Black folks see ourselves and our ancestors represented through our own lens. We invite you to join us in honoring your family archive by engaging with it and learning about how to preserve your images for years to come, the same way you would preserve any other family heirloom.
Please note that sessions are limited to 20-30 minutes, so we will only be able to work with a limited amount of images depending on what services you would like to get done.
